Spring is a Time to Heal! by Bridgette Raitz on 3/12/2017

As the days lengthen and buds begin popping up all over, it feels like Mother Nature is stretching and getting ready for a beautiful Spring. In much the same way, it’s a great time for us to focus on healing, leaving our more restorative wintertime, and spreading our wings to fly. Stones can be wonderful companions to us on our healing journey--- spiritually, emotionally and physically. So this month, I am featuring a small assortment of wonderful stones that work in various ways to support and lift up the body, mind and spirit.

Throughout the centuries, many civilizations have known the healing powers of stones. As early as ancient Egypt and before, there are records of various gemstones being used for a variety of purposes. Today, there is a plethora of anecdotal evidence suggesting that stones can be a powerful ally in our arsenal against disease, or “dis-ease”. In that vein, I wanted to highlight six of my favorites:

Seraphinite, named after the highest order of angels, is a wonderful and powerful healing stone. It is a lovely green color with silvery markings that resemble wings. Seraphinite is only found in the Lake Baikal area of Siberia.

Tied closely to the heart chakra, this stone is said to be centering and energizing, balancing and cleansing, allowing old patterns to fall away and new vibrant light energy to emerge. Seraphinite adds vibrations of wholeness to the auric field. It is wonderful for angelic and Divine Feminine communication and meditation.

Seraphinite is a high-vibrational stone that stimulates well-being, wholeness and healing to mind* body* spirit. It has been called “the premier healing stone of the age” because it brings the body’s vibration into line with light energy, increasing cellular regeneration. Seraphinite is also an amazing companion for those interested in healing planet earth.

Malachite, another very healing green stone, is a copper carbonate mineral. Mentions of this wonderful stone have appeared as early as 3000 BC in Egypt, and later in Greek and Roman civilizations. Malachite is both healing and protective---making it a delightful stone to wear or have in your home or workplace. From a healing perspective, Malachite is said to help set the healthiest energy for the heart. It enhances willpower to stay strong against unhealthy temptations, and cleanses the auric field against negativity.

Malachite is also said to be an excellent ally in manifesting your dreams and encouraging prosperity by enhancing clarity and confidence. Placed around your home, this powerful stone cleans and protects against pollutions, toxicity, and negative energies. It is said to be helpful when traveling via air or car as it is believed to lower your profile to negative energies. And anecdotally is said to ease migraines and amp your immune system while it aids the heart, stomach, liver and lungs. Malachite sometimes grows with chrysocolla and azurite in combinations- other stones that are also copper based.

Azurite-Malachite is one of these combinations that appear and is packed with wonderful healing energy. A sacred stone in ancient Egypt, it is said to be linked to the lost city of Atlantis as well. This stone carries the exact frequency of the 3rd eye chakra, making it a stone of insight that enhances our development of psychic powers and inner vision. With the wonderful combination of the blue and green rays, azurite-malachite is an excellent stone for students of all ages- helping assimilate new information with clarity and focus.

Azurite is an exceptional conductor of energy and a wonderful representative of the blue ray that penetrates and moves energy, calming stress levels within the system and strengthening the astral and etheric bodies. Malachite of the green ray facilitates a deep healing force. It may also be used to cleanse the subconscious of emotionally charged thoughts or negative feelings, and may facilitate past life exploration. It can help reign in the ego allowing one to sense the truth more easily and opens the door to the universal connection to “All.” Azurite-Malachite’s combined energy is highly excellent for meditation. It facilitates a deep journey without fear.

Amber is not a stone, but organic material that is actually fossilized botanical resin. It ranges from yellow to brown to reddish brown and transparently displays pieces of plants and insects. Astonishingly, it can be up to 120 million years old! Baltic amber, consider by many to be the finest available, is resin formed from conifer trees that date back 30-60 million years. Far from a recent discovery, amber pieces were crafted into jewelry by the ancient Egyptians some 4500 years ago. This material has also been found in rosary beads dating back to the Middle Ages.

Amber is said to increase inner radiance by carrying a light energy or life force which some have termed “solidified sunlight.” Many believe it carries a solar energy that is good for health, warmth, wellbeing and vitality, making it an ideal companion for those recovering from an illness, one who needs more energy or anyone suffering from seasonal light deprivation. Amber is said to purify negative or stagnant energy while it cleanses and heals the energy field. Because amber encourages warmth and is said to improve short-term memory, it may be especially good for the elderly. Finally, this wonderful material is also believed to increase courage and personal power and strength, making it a great companion for those seeking to manifest their dreams.

Lepidolite is a lithium-bearing mineral that ranges from a lovely pink to purple to lavender. It is a stone of willing acceptance, perfect for life’s difficult times. Lepidolite has a calm, clearing energy that helps break blocks, dispel negative thoughts, release stress and can even soothe deeply-held emotional traumas. It connects to the heart chakra to bring calming and relaxing energy, making it a stone of serenity.

Lepidolite is also centering and balancing for the emotions, helping to dispel fear, guilt, worry, resentment and even illuminate the “victim mentality”. It can draw the emotional body away from extremes, while it activates the heart to bring in more loving energy for yourself and others.

It is said that 1-2 lepidolite stones place in a warm tub of water has a very calming and therapeutic effect.

And lastly, a quick mention of a personal favorite of mine, howlite, also called white turquoise. This white stone, which is originally found in large cauliflower-like masses with grey and black veins, it named for mineralogist Henry How, who discovered it in Nova Scotia.

Howlite is a stone of awareness that can assist us in accessing the wisdom of our Higher Self. It can also be used in meditation to clear the clutter of emotional pain or attachments from this life or from a past life. As such, it is a great stone for dispelling anger, resentment, stress, selfishness and anxiety. Contrastingly, it is wonderful for breaking blocks to creativity, encouraging an end to procrastination and enhancing focus and self-expression. Finally, howlite is a calming stone that aids in peaceful sleep. It is wonderful placed under your pillow at night to counter insomnia and restless tension.
